The Buzzards Bay 14 is a 17'9" ondeck authentic reproduction of the famous and beloved Herreshoff design. The design is based on the famous Herreshoff 12 1/2 but enough longer to be faster and comfortable in larger waters, such as Buzzards Bay in MA.
Fiberglass hull and beautiful wood trim, so the maintenance is pretty easy, but the look is traditional. A full keel and attached rudder makes her superb for all waters, especially those with lobster buoys. And only 2'6" draft is great for both shoal and deeper waters.
This boat is hull #1 and I have had her since new - with a dark green hull, varnished mahogany and natural teak, and and an off-white mast and booms, she's a beauty. And a great sailor. Comes with an outboard in case the wind dies, but she sails so easily in light airs that I rarely needed it.
Full sail covers and a cockpit tent to protect the varnish. I recently stripped and refinished all varnish; its in solid condition but not perfect. Does not need revarnishing after 10 coats of Epiphanes Gloss.
The hull, deck, motor, and spars are in excellent condition; solid as a rock.
Sails are original, recently inspected and washed by a local sailmaker, but probably getting a bit tired. Our season is short, the sun is not too hard on the sails, and the boat is lightly used, which is why this boat looks (and is) in such good condition.
Comes with a lightly used Triad galvanized trailer. This trailer is customized to the BB 14 and includes a tongue extension for launching in deeper water. New tires and bearings in 2019.
A new BB 14 costs over $50,000 (without trailer).
This wonderful, beautiful boat has never let me down - I enjoy looking at her on the mooring almost as much as I love sailing. I hope you do too. She's on her trailer in mid-coast Maine ready to go in the water now.
