The club was founded in 1924 by Seth Milliken for his children and their friends, and its first members were mostly under the age of 15. From that time to the present, the club has put “teaching children to sail” very high on its agenda. In 2003, the flourishing Junior Program was spun off into its own nonprofit, the Kollegewidgwok Sailing and Education Association (KSEA), with a mandate to teach sailing to as many children of the Blue Hill Peninsula as possible, whether or not their parents might be members of the club.
